The rescue org offered to have the family fill out an application for Iggy they refused saying they should not have to they dog was theirs.Seems the news forgets that part. At that point, they found Iggy a new home. If they wanted the dog so bad, why did they not go through the proper channels? They were going to make an exception for them but Ellen wanted to make a big deal of it, she was the one who made this the fiasco it became.

I didn't hear that they didn't want to apply... but regardless, it seems like the dog was happy in that home and everything could have been worked out a bit better. Ellen didn't do what she was supposed to, it's normal that a rescue include a clause in their adoption that the dog is returned to them, however, it seems like this rescue wanted to make a bit of news for themselves too.

Glad the doggy has a new home, but I do feel badly for those kids that lost their pet.

My hairdresser got her dog from the same rescue and says they are wonderful. I feel bad for everyone involved - rescues do have to make sure they maintain strict rules to insure that the dogs go to loving and responsible homes.

I don't think it's fair that the rescue org gets labelled as the bad guys because at the end of the day, their rules are to ensure the safety of their dogs. The family should either try to adopt Iggy through the right channels or just move on. Ellen shouldn't have made it to be such a big deal on tv - bad press for the few organizations that actually help animals, plus it was her fault anyway.

Two sides to every story, I know.
I just hated to see Ellen so sad.
As long as the dog has a good home, that's all that matters!

I think it is over, or it should be anyway. Iggy has a new home and it's not like the hairdresser's family has any grounds for legal action against the rescue. They had the right to take him back. In my opinion Ellen is the one totally in the wrong here: she should not have given Iggy away, and she definitely should not have taken the whole thing public. Ellen and the hairdresser's family need to just move on.

There are so many rumors swirling around to the point I don't even know what's right on the 'news' anymore.

I just hope that they could've worked this out, instead of the war of words and 'facts.'

a) I think Ellen should have given Iggy more than 2 weeks to settle into her home before giving him away. Puppies take longer than that to train, regardless of how much their trainer charges per hour.

b) If the rescue place really did offer the new family a chance to have Iggy officially signed over to them then I can't understand why they didn't just do that. If they didn't do it they've no right to be causing such a fuss now.

c) Regardless of what went down, going on your tv show and crying about it like your mother just died is absolutely NOT an appropriate response and it was an abuse of her power to use that forum to bad mouth somebody's business. Especially when that business is about saving animals.

Oh yeah, and

d) if Paris Hilton or Britney Spears adopted a dog and then gave it away 2 weeks later imagine the backlash they would have to endure. Just because this is Ellen and we all think she's nice and grounded and responsible doesn't automatically make her right.

though it may seem excessive to some the agency just wants to make sure it's a good home.
most agencies have the same policies and also like to do a home inspection.
they evaluate everyone.
it's in the best interest of the dog for them to make sure the family is really committed and capable.
the family should have filled an application and gone through the proper channels.
but the important part in the end is that the dog has been placed in a good home.

This was all taken to far. Ellen should never have gone on her show with all of that. The shelter should have handled it better, and Ellen should have asked them first. Her reaction was absurd, she was crying like a love one had died. As for the family, its not like they had the dog for along time, they can find a new pet. Everyone needs to get over them selfs in this situation and act like responsible adults.

I think this whole thing is all pretty stupid. I just think they should give to poor girl her dog back and get this over with

I wouldn't ever do any kind of dealings with this kind of org. May as well go to the pound or the humane society.
I'm not going to vilify Ellen over this. This org. actions were extremely aggressive and they did themselves more harm then good.
Frankly, i also find it suspect that Ellen's info was never updated on the dogs chip, otherwise she'd have that dog tonight.

I haven't really been following closely because it kind of disgusts me when celebs use their public forum to fuel their grudges. That said, it's an unfortunate situation for everybody involved, nobody comes out ahead in this. I hope that people will stop the public airing of laundry and use this opportunity to teach the little girl involved a valuable lesson about right, wrong, equity, fairness, and charity.

First of all, death threats to the dog rescue agency! That is RIDICULOUS.
Ellen losing her mind on national TV- what kind of example is that to set for people?

This should have remained a private matter with Ellen and that rescue agency.

Apparently the rules don't apply to Ellen...and then when she's "sad", the world should stop. I think she should stop treating animals like accessories.

The Sunday evening before this story broke my roommate & I were stalked by paparazzi thinking one of my dogs (my Brussels Griffon, who looks nothing like Iggy) was Iggy. Evidently they thought that the woman who removed Iggy from the home lives in our building, & when they saw us come out with the dogs, thought one of us might be her. I had to tell the guy (who had a camera in our faces with a very bright light the whole time) that none of the dogs belonged to Ellen DeGeneres, no, none of them were named Iggy & we didn't know what he was talking about. You can imagine my surprise when I found out about the whole story two days later!

I just think that they should do what's in the best interest of the dog, he deserves to be in a happy forever home.

Evidently Ellen likes to get dogs and give them away.

Something more must be up with her to cancel shows, she was in a hospital bed when her back was hurt.

I'm waiting for news of a split with her and Portia.
